Chiusura Windows Live Messenger

Tra due mesi, o quasi, Windows Live Messenger, il client di messaggistica istantanea per eccellenza, verrà disattivato.

No, non si tratta di uno scherzo bensì della decisione presa da Microsoft, già da qualche tempo a questa parte, di dire addio al tanto lodato servizio e di “passare il testimone” a Skype, il noto client VoIP recentemente acquisito.

La notizia non è esattamente una novità: già diverse settimane fa, infatti, Microsoft, considerando la coesistenza di due servizi in grado di eseguire le medesime operazioni, aveva fatto sapere che ben presto Windows Live Messenger, per gli amici semplicemente Messenger o MSN, sarebbe stato chiuso nei mesi a venire senza però specificare una data esatta.

Nel corso delle ultime ore, poi, Microsoft ha iniziato ad inviare apposite email informative per comunicare, appunto, la data esatta di chiusura del servizio: il 15 marzo 2013.

A partire da tale data gli oltre 100 milioni di utenti in possesso di un account Microsoft (il Messenger Live ID) saranno praticamente costretti ad utilizzare Skype per poter usufruire di servizi analoghi, e non solo.

Windows Live Messenger scomparirà quindi da tutti i mercati eccezion fatta per la Cina dove, invece, continuerà ad essere disponibile senza problemi.

È però importante sottolineare il fatto che con il rilascio delle ultime versioni per Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista ed XP Microsoft ha compeltato la migrazione del network Skype verso la piattaforma Messenger il che permette di effettuare il login al client VoIP servendosi del vecchio account Microsoft e, di conseguenza, di comunicare con i proprio contatti Messenger, Hotmail e di Outllok.com senza alcun problema e direttamente dal nuovo client.

Diversamente da Windows Live Messenger, Skype può inoltre essere impiegato anche su device basati su Windows 8 e Windows Phone 8.

Nelle prossime ore (in alcuni casi già da diversi giorni a questa parte) gli utenti Windows Live Messenger visualizzeranno, al momento dell’accesso al servizio di messaggistica istantanea, un’apposita notifica che invita al download di Skype qualora non presente sul computer in uso.
