Il 53% degli utenti di Twitter è costituito da donne. Lo rivela una ricerca pubblicata da Edison Research negli Stati Uniti, che ha analizzato l’uso del social network negli Usa. Lo studio rivela che la fascia di età più rappresentata è quella tra i 25 e i 35 anni, seguita da quella dai 35 ai 45.

Per quanto riguarda le etnie che compongono il variegato popolo americano, i bianchi costituiscono la metà degli utenti mentre la restante metà è divisa tra afroamericani (24%) e ispanici (17%). Gli asiatici e gli altri gruppi etnici coprono solo l’8% del totale.

Ma la parte più interessante è quella relativa allo status sociale, formativo ed esperienziale degli utenti. Pare infatti che chi usa Twitter sia ricco e istruito, e che consideri internet molto più importante della televisione. Più della metà degli utenti attivi, inoltre, utilizza il social network per seguire le attività di aziende, marche e prodotti sul web.

Circa due terzi degli utenti utilizzano Twitter dal cellulare. Il sito di  microblogging più famoso del mondo ha raggiunto più di 106 milioni di account attivi, ben il 7% della popolazione totale negli Usa. Di questi circa il 30% pubblica almeno un tweet alla settimana. Certo, in confronto al mastodonte dei social network non è niente: il 41% degli americani ha un profilo su Facebook e gli sviluppatori sono convinti che entro la fine dell’anno raggiungerà i 600 milioni di membri.

Twitter però resta il social network preferito da chi vuole seguire non solo marche e prodotti, ma soprattutto personaggi famosi e artisti preferiti. Sono i vip, a conti fatti, ad aver scatenato l’interesse che gira intorno al sito. Tra i più seguiti, Obama, Britney Spears e Lady Gaga.
