Unione Europea: Facebook tuteli i giovanissimi

La Commissione Europea torna nuovamente all’attacco di Facebook e similari reti sociali, colpevoli di non garantire la giusta protezione ai minori da possibili predatori sessuali. L’allarme è lanciato dal Commissario Europeo Neelie Kroes, che tiene a sottolineare come Facebook ed altri grandi del settore non facciano praticamente nulla per garantire tutela e protezione ai giovanissimi utenti.

“Il fatto che la maggior parte dei siti legati al social networking non siano ancora riusciti ad assicurare ai minori una adeguata protezione da possibili malintenzionati rendendo accessibili i loro profili solo ai contatti autorizzati mi rammarica”, è il commento di Kroes.

L’Unione Europa del resto si è già dimostrata in passato molto attenta ad una questione delicata di questo genere. Recentemente è stato infatti stilato un rapporto che certifica come il 77 percento di ragazzi tra i 13 e i 16 fanno regolarmente uso di Facebook e simili piattaforme. Il dato è aggravato dal fatto che anche oltre il 40 percento di giovanissimi tra i 9 e i 12 anni frequenta tranquillamente MySpace, Bebo e appunto il social network di Mark Zuckerberg.

Il Commissario Kroes esprime dunque la propria preoccupazione per questi dati, considerato inoltre che molti social network in teoria non permetterebbero l’iscrizione ai minori di 13 anni. Ma c’è un’altra questione: 12 siti su 14 analizzati permettono di indicizzare i profili dei minori di 18 anni, mettendoli così letteralmente alla mercé di eventuali malintenzionati.

Nonostante MySpace e Bebo negli ultimi tempi abbiano provato a regolamentarsi in tal senso, la preoccupazione maggiore per la Commissione Europa arriva comunque da Facebook, proprio perché è il più diffuso e popolare al mondo. Pertanto, l’Unione Europea invita nuovamente i vertici di Facebook a dare vita ad un adeguato contesto di autoregolamentazione per i profili appartenenti ai più giovani, così da evitare eventuali sanzioni da parte dell’Unione in futuro.

La discussione probabilmente continuerà anche nelle prossime settimane. Dopotutto, Facebook aveva annunciato di stare pensando alla realizzazione di una struttura alternativa a quella principale dedicata proprio ai giovanissimi.
