La scorsa primavera Twitter aveva presentato i cosiddetti “promoted tweets“, ovvero brevi spot pubblicitari, inseriti sotto forma di comuni messaggi da 140 caratteri, che appariranno sempre e comunque al primo posto nei risultati di ricerca.

Fino ad ora il servizio era in fase sperimentale, mentre adesso, con il lancio del nuovo Twitter, i promoted tweets entrano ufficialmente in funzioni e da qualche giorno sono già attivi nella nuova versione del social network.

Questa mossa serve, ovviamente, per portare soldi nelle casse di Twitter. Il social network, sebbene abbia riscosso un successo notevole, non è mai riuscito veramente a guadagnare denaro. Ora però sembra arrivato il momento della svolta definitiva.

Un promoted tweet ha tutto l’aspetto di un normalissimo messaggio (anche se è bene evidenziato il fatto che si tratta di un messaggio promozionale), sarà possibile rispondere al post e ritwittare il contenuto ai nostri amici, come facciamo normalmente con tutti gli altri tweet.

Il servizio è rivolto principalmente a grandi aziende che vogliono rilanciare i propri brand, visto anche l’alto costo della campagna pubblicitaria: circa 100.000 dollari, anche se non è chiaro cosa comprenda questa cifra, oltre al posizionamento del messaggio al primo posto delle ricerche degli utenti.

Qualche nome? Coca Cola, Red Bull, Nike, Adidas, Nokia, BMW, Mercedes, Electronic Arts, solamente per citare alcune multinazionali che hanno aderito (o aderiranno presto) al programma promoted tweets.

I tweet promozionali, a quanto sembra, sono molto cliccati dai navigatori, che vedono nel messaggio un consiglio pubblicitario “buono”, il contenuto infatti non viene considerato invasivo e gli utenti sono ben disposti a condividere e rispondere al messaggio.

Insieme ai promoted tweets è stato attivato anche il servizio promoted accounts. Stesso concetto dei brevi messaggi pubblicitari, “allargato” però ai profili. Ovvero, profili Twitter sponsorizzati dalle grande aziende, che nascono con lo scopo di unire migliaia di followers per poter pubblicizzare ad un grande pubblico i singoli tweet.
