Spartan, il nuovo progetto segreto di Facebook

Project Spartan

Si chiama Project Spartan ed è il nuovo progetto segreto che sta impegnando da mesi Mark Zuckerberg e soci. Di cosa si tratta? Di un marketplace per le applicazioni basato su HTML5, Facebook vuole fare concorrenza ad Apple dando vita ad un rivale di App Store capace di funzionare via browser.

Il progetto è indirizzato ai dispositivi iOS ed è pensato per girare solo su Safari, non si esclude però l’arrivo di Spartan su Android e perchè no, anche su Windows Phone 7.

Spartan sarà ovviamente integrato con Facebook, tutte le funzioni principali del social network saranno attive anche nel marketplace per le app, inoltre sarà possibile usare i crediti per acquistare giochi, programmi e nuovi contenuti.

Lo scopo di Zuck è quello di entrare nel mercato delle app per iPhone e smartphone, un business sempre più redditizio, per quanto riguarda i dispositivi iOS però Apple la fa da padrona con App Store, Facebook vuole fornire una alternativa al marketplace della casa di Cupertino, non sarà facile convincere cento milioni di utenti a cambiare le proprie abitudini, è vero però che il marchio Facebook potrebbe aiutare in questo senso.

Tante le aziende coinvolte nel progetto, in rete circola insistentemente il nome di Zynga, a quanto pare la casa di FarmVille e CityVille sta realizzando versioni in Flash dei suoi giochi, compatibili con Safari, in questo modo Facebook spera di attirare fin da subito gli utenti su Spartan. I titoli Zynga sono molto popolari tra gli utenti del social network blu, la disponibilità di FrontierVille, Zynga Poker ed altri giochi del genere potrebbe spingere gli utenti a spostarsi in massa verso il nuovo store.

Spartan sembra un progetto interessante, vedremo se l’idea avrà successo o se si rivelerà un gigantesco buco nell’acqua, di certo Apple non resterà a guardare, garantito.
