Quando Skype è meglio del telefono: come i social media hanno cambiato la nostra vita

Mentre si fa febbrile l’attesa per il nuovissimo sistema di messaggistica di Facebook (ricordiamo che la conferma o la definitiva smentita di un reale sistema di email dovrebbe arrivare a momenti) il sito web di TechCrunch pubblica un curioso articolo sul declino del telefono, oramai soppiantato da sistemi di comunicazione più rapidi e innovativi, ma soprattutto meno costosi, come ad esempio Skype. Il vecchio telefono paragonato a questa versatile voice chat, sta attraversando la medesima fase calante della vecchia posta (o snail mail), ormai soppiantata anche per le comunicazioni ufficiali dalla posta elettronica.

In effetti già da tempo c’erano i segnali che telefonare a qualcuno per chiedere “come stai?” fosse diventata una consuetudine obsoleta, quando lasciare un saluto su Facebook è ugualmente piacevole ma assai più veloce ed economico. Ma se il telefono è sempre meno utilizzato, soppiantato dal Voip e dai social network, anche gli SMS se la passano male. Grazie ai provider di telefonia mobile che offrono tariffe per navigare in internet sempre più convenienti, è più facile messaggiarsi con Twitter che ricorrere al T9.


Nemmeno le cartoline hanno avuto miglior fortuna, per colpa della concorrenza delle ecards ma soprattutto delle community di photo sharing come Picasa o Flickr, che permettono di condividere con amici e parenti non una sola immagine, ma interi album di fotografie e i video più belli delle nostre vacanze.

Tuttavia affermare che “il telefono è morto” come fa TechCrunch ci sembra ancora un azzardo. Benché la necessità di effettuare telefonate diminuisca sempre di più col passare del tempo, l’abitudine di fare una semplice chiamata resiste alle mode e alle tecnologie. La morte della telefonia tradizionale, insomma, non si verificherà in breve tempo, e forse interesserà solo una percentuale molto piccola della popolazione. La maggior parte delle persone nel mondo non dispongono ancora di una connessione Internet di base, e non sono in grado di utilizzare il VoIP per le loro esigenze di comunicazione. Insomma, non è vero che le telefonate sono in declino, ma è vero che i canali per farle e riceverle stanno cambiando.
