La vita quotidiana porta sempre a fare delle scelte. Le funzioni offerte dai motori di ricerca vengono sempre migliorate, per permettere ai naviganti ignari di affinare le proprie query di ricerca ed evitare di fare lunghe trafile di link ipertestuali prima di arrivare al proprio obiettivo: l’informazione giusta. Google ha pensato ai suggerimenti di ricerca, Yahoo alle categorie settoriali per filtri, ma molti sono anche i social network che ormai hanno un’interfaccia costante con le ricerche on line per produrre dei risultati interessanti al nostro lavoro di finding.
Uno dei social network che si è occupato di ricerca di immagini è Flickr, molto usato da 5 anni e passa, ma c’era qualcuno nello staff che voleva fare di più. In effetti, uno dei soci fondatori del social network fotografico, ha deciso di prendere la sua strada e lanciarsi nel mondo dei motori di ricerca. Il suo progetto ha come nome in codice: Hunch. Il sito internet che sarà lanciato il prossimo 15 Giugno del 2009, avrà come obiettivo principale (secondo gli slogan della campagna di lancio), il dare sempre una risposta pronta per gli utenti definiti eterni indecisi. Il motore di ricerca permette di trovare elenchi di qualsiasi tipologia di argomento. A partire dai social network, dai contatti per le relazioni interpersonali, fino agli acquisti più impensati di prodotti tipici locali per la cucina. Ogni argomento cercato sul sito, proporrà una serie di domande a risposta multipla, che saranno la guida ufficiale dell’utente (passando per vari step sempre a risposta multipla) per arrivare alla tanto agognata decisione da prendere.
Per anticipare il lancio del motore di ricerca, il noto network informativo Wall Street Journal, ha dato come main question (prima domanda iniziale) una ipotetica: “Dovrei comprare una TV HD?”. Ed Hunch, non si è tirato indietro nella risposta e come step successivo ha proposto altre otto domande tra cui “Quanto è vecchia la tua TV?” oppure ancora “Che schermo vorresti?”. In base alle risposte date dall’utente, fino ad arrivare ad una soddisfazione nelle risposte dell’ottanta per cento, Hunch darà la sua sentenza. L’ideazione è partita nel 2008 e gli investimenti hanno superato i 2 milioni di dollari diviso per un team di 10 persone, tra cui spiccano il fondatore di Flickr ed uno dei fondatori di LinkedIn.
