Sanford Wallace deve 711 milioni a Facebook

E’ successo per l’ennesima volta. Chissà se per sfizio o semplicemente per passione, il re dello spam statunitense Sanford Wallace, continua a seminare grane in giro. Questa volta però a pagarne le spese è stato lo stesso “re”. Infatti, la Corte distrettuale degli Stati Uniti d’America, del distretto a Nord della California, ha deciso che Sanford Wallace, debba versare 711 milioni di dollari nelle casse di Facebook. La motivazione? Semplicemente per risarcire il social network di tutta la posta “spazzatura” inviata da Wallace.

Ma lo spammer ha una lunga storia alle spalle. Dalla pagina di Wikipedia che parla di lui, si rende noto che a partire dagli anni ’90 fino al 2001 circa, sia riuscito ad inviare oltre 30 milioni di junk e-mail. Le sue committenti sono le Aziende americane più svariate, ma negli ultimi tempi si sta dedicando anche al mercato orientale, inviando proposte commerciali e per adulti a più non posso.

L’accusa contro Sanford Wallace in questa diatriba è quella di violazione del Can-Spam Act del 2003. A seguito di questa nuova causa, Facebook ha dichiarato che spera e soprattutto vede questo risarcimento astronomico come un possibile deterrente contro lo spam mondiale.

Ripercorrendo gli attimi della vita dello spammer professionista per eccellenza, vediamo che già nel Maggio del 2008 Sanford Wallace fu destinato a risarcire il noto social network MySpace.com, di un importo di oltre 234 milioni di dollari.

Ma anche Facebook non ha avuto vita facile, visto che Wallace non è stato l’unico ad attaccare il network di Mark Zuckerberg da quando è diventato molto popolare. Ad oggi però, BigF ha avuto sempre la meglio, infatti nel Novembre del 2008, ha vinto un’altra causa contro uno spammer, per un totale di 873 milioni di dollari sempre per violazione del Can-Spam Act. Questo è stato uno dei maxi risarcimenti per spam più grandi al mondo. Seguiti cronologicamente da quelli dei 177.500 e 1,1 milioni di dollari nel 2007 per aver inviato spam a sfondo pornografico di Jeffrey Kilbride e James Schaffer.
