Il vice presidente del Software Group di Ibm Italia, Steve Smith (nome completo Stephen Smith), che si è insediato da circa un mese, dopo 16 anni Big Blue per il software in Europa. Secondo le sue dichiarazioni, il mercato italiano è: “un po’ changelling, ma non diverso dagli altri mercati europei”. Ad oggi Smith, dichiara di vedere con buon occhio questa crisi perchè è una opportunità da prendere al volo, data la possibilità di creare una: “coscienza collettiva sul quanto il mondo sia piatto e connesso”. La soluzione a questa situazione, trovatasi nel punto di incontro, secondo Smith è quella di lavorare ancora insieme per raggiungere la creazione di uno Smart Planet – un pianeta intelligente – dove tutti cercano una efficienza insieme alla riduzione di costi e la riduzione dell’impatto ambientale.

Per fare ciò, anche le acquisizioni servono per poter dare questa opportunità. In queste parole egli, poi, coinvolge tutta la IBM e soprattutto il Software Group a cui viene assegnato un ruolo definito fondamentale: “Il software è cruciale nei sistemi operativi, ma diventa sempre più il centro della infrastruttura aziendale”. Questo continuo interessamento alla fusione di soluzioni con il mondo intero, oltre a far dimostrare a Steve Smith gli interessi della propria azienda ed incentrarli tanto sul mondo Software, si sposta sulle nuove soluzioni create dalla propria azienda per arrivare al fatidico Smart Planet. Il tutto è incentrato soprattutto su un software: Lotus Software. Il cambiamento radicale nei metodi di lavoro e nei metodi di studio, porta a cercare di ottenere sempre il top dal punto di vista della collettività. Il perno di questa strategia lavorativa è la Unified Communication & Collaboration.

I nuovi software della suite di Lotus permetterebbero alle aziende di lavorare in modo più rapido, integrato e intelligente. In effetti il modello social network è alla base di questa attività. In primis la gestione del portfolio clienti e fornitori, oltre che la messaggistica avanzata (intesa come e-mail, calendario, antispam ed antivirus), oltre che le comunicazioni in tempo reale (chat, web conference, VoIP) e tutto ciò che riguarda i social network (reti di relazioni, community, blog e wiki). In pratica tutta la suite come un social network interno basato sulla collaborazione e divulgazione tra clienti, fornitori e partner. Il modello da loro deciso è adottato in primis da Lamborghini Auto e sembra funzionare.

I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
