La Disney verso il social gaming

Il successo mondiale dei giochi on line sta pian piano “corrompendo” al passaggio tutte le maggiori istituzioni commerciali internazionali. Anche la Walt Disney, sembra attratta dai benefici che possono portare le applicazioni ed i giochi on line e di conseguenza in questi giorni ha formalizzato l’acquisto della Playdom per un importo pari a 563,2 milioni di dollari che al cambio equivalgono a circa 436 milioni di euro.

L’accordo fatto, dovrebbe portare a pieno nel  gruppo dei cartoon la società entro la fine dell’anno fiscale 2010, ma con l’utilizzo di una clausola sul contratto che è stata aggiunta in relazione agli introiti del rendimento di determinate garanzie di produttività che toccano almeno i 200 milioni di dollari.
Disney ha fatto questa acquisizione basandosi sul fatto che la Playdom è il quarto tra i maggiori sviluppatori di apps e games per Facebook e di conseguenza secondo i dati delle analisi effettuate da App Data, le applicazioni riescono ad attrarre ben 42 milioni di giocatori attivi ogni mese con i giochi principali che sono Mobster e Social Siti.


L’unica perplessità è stata mostrata da Mike Hickey, che ha ritenuto troppo alto il prezzo che Disney ha pagato, anche se probabilmente pensa che ci sia qualche idea di base alla Disney per attaccare così prepotentemente il mercato dei social games.
Ma non solo Disney è decisa ad entrare in questo ambito. La EA, lo scorso anno aveva pensato di acquistare PlayFish, il secondo sviluppatore di Facebook per grandezza con un ammontare di 275 milioni di dollari. Si sa bene che però il primato delle imprese produttive in social games su Facebook rimane quello della Zynga, che continua a movimentare capitali grazie ai suoi giochi on line.

I giochi che vediamo attualmente on line della Disney Interactive, sono curati da sviluppatori interni, che hanno comunque dato una popolarità ed una continuità al Marchio Disney, ma questa acquisizione è stata resa necessaria per un discorso di professionalizzazione dell’immagine.
