Cosa sappiamo sul nuovo aggiornamento WhatsApp Web per le videochiamate

WhatsApp sta implementando il supporto per le chiamate vocali e video alla sua app desktop, ha detto giovedì il servizio di messaggistica di proprietà di Facebook, fornendo sollievo a innumerevoli persone sedute davanti a computer che hanno dovuto raggiungere il proprio telefono ogni volta che WhatsApp squillava.

Per ora, WhatsApp ha affermato che la sua app desktop di quasi cinque anni per Mac e Windows supporterà solo le chiamate uno a uno, ma che espanderà questa funzione per includere chiamate vocali e video di gruppo “in futuro”.

Le videochiamate funzionano “perfettamente” sia per l’orientamento verticale che orizzontale e il client desktop è “impostato per essere sempre in primo piano in modo da non perdere mai le chat video in una scheda del browser o in una pila di finestre aperte”, ha affermato l’azienda, che ha iniziato a testare la funzione con un piccolo gruppo di utenti su desktop alla fine dell’anno scorso.

A proposito, il supporto per le chiamate vocali e video non è stato esteso a WhatsApp Web, la versione browser del servizio, al momento, ha detto un portavoce a TechCrunch. A tal proposito, va ricordato che Facebook abbia lanciato l’anno scorso un’app desktop dedicata per il suo servizio Messenger , che supporta le videochiamate di gruppo.

Il supporto della nuova funzionalità dovrebbe tornare utile a milioni di persone che utilizzano il client desktop di WhatsApp ogni giorno e hanno dovuto utilizzare Zoom o Google Meet per videochiamate one-to-one su desktop, in parte per comodità.

WhatsApp, utilizzato da oltre 2 miliardi di persone, non ha condiviso quanto siano popolari le chiamate video e vocali sulla sua piattaforma, ma ha affermato di aver elaborato oltre 1,4 miliardi di chiamate a Capodanno: l’utilizzo quotidiano tende a raggiungere il picco sulla piattaforma di proprietà di Facebook.

Per tutte queste ragioni, ci sono pochi dubbi sul fatto che il nuovo aggiornamento WhatsApp Web farà piacere a tutti coloro che in questi anni hanno deciso di utilizzare il servizio. Staremo a vedere quando riusciremo a fare questo step anche in Italia, al di là del sistema operativo di riferimento.
