La Germania si scaglia contro il riconoscimento automatico dei volti su Facebook

La Germania, da alcune ore a questa parte, sta dando vero e propri filo da torcere a Facebook che a causa della funzionalità adibita al riconoscimento automatico dei volti sembrerebbe violare la privacy di uno straordinario quantitativo di utenti tedeschi iscritti, appunto, alla rinomata risorsa di social networking.

Ad esporre a gran voce la problematica è stato Johannes Caspar, supervisore tedesco per la protezione dei dati personali, che ha appunto posto l’accento sul fatto che la tecnologia sfruttata per il riconoscimento automatico dei volti potrebbe essere impiegata abusando della privacy degli utenti in modo inaccettabile.

Questo sta quindi a significare che il riconoscimento automatico dei volti potrà essere utilizzato da Facebook solo e soltanto qualora adeguato alla legislazione nazionale ed Europea in materia o, in caso contrario, sarà necessario provvedere alla disattivazione della funzionalità.

Frattanto Caspar ha provveduto ad invitare il team del tanto amato social network in blu ad interrompere l’utilizzo della funzionalità in questione e, inoltre, a cancellare tutti i dati memorizzati salvo quelli facenti riferimento agli utenti che hanno espresso il loro consenso alla registrazione dei dettagli relativi al proprio profilo biometrico.

Qulora Facebook non dovesse agire così come richiesto dalle autorità tedesche il rischio è quello di andare incontro ad una multa avente un valore massimo pari a 300 mila euro, una sanzione che, per quanto gravosa, non è certo in grado di incidere in maniera devastante su una società che, allo stato attuale delle cose, presenta una valore pari a ben 50 miliardi di dollari.

In ogni caso questa non è la prima volta che Facebook si ritrova ad andare incontro a problematiche circa la privacy del popolo tedesco.

A Gennaio di quest’anno, infatti, era stata richiesta una limitazione circa l’utilizzo degli indirizzi e-mail degli utenti non iscritti al social network ma, in quel caso, era stato possibile raggiungere un accordo.

Per quanto concerne invece l’esito dell’attuale problematica non resta altro da fare che attendere nuovi aggiornamenti.
