Dopo tante voci (ad oggi infondate) sulla comparsa di Microsoft nel mondo dei social network, sembra che Bill Gates ed i suoi ragazzi abbiano deciso di fare un test del terreno entrando nell’ambito in maniera trasversale. Ebbene da casa Redmond non arrivano notizie della realizzazione di un nuovo social network realizzato ad hoc per gli utenti web, bensì, la possibilità di integrazione con il proprio hardware videoludico.

Microsoft ha infatti comunicato ufficialmente la propria intenzione di integrare nella propria XBox, un nuovo software di supporto per i social network più popolari. Essendo la “console” di Bill, un dispositivo collegabile ad Internet, sembra proprio che questa tipologia di nuova applicazione renderebbe felici molteplici utenti e videogiocatori che ad oggi hanno sfruttatto questa potenzialità connettiva solo ed esclusivamente per fare tornei on line e non per navigare su Internet.
L’annuncio è ufficiale perchè è stato pubblicato direttamente dai canali ufficiali di Microsoft, che ha anche preannunciato che dall’autunno del 2009, tutti gli utenti Gold del servizio on line, potranno accedere liberamente ai noti social network come Facebook, il microblogging Twitter e Last.fm. Ma le novità non riguardano solo gli utenti Gold, ma anche gli utenti Silver saranno “baciati” da novità. Infatti, potranno disporre di un periodo di prova gratuito che non è stato ancora temporalmente specificato. Oltre al tempo di utilizzo non specificato, non è ancora noto cosa è possibile fare ed a quali network è possibile accedere.

Questa trovata commerciale è stata classificata secondo i marketers, come una duplice prova per casa Microsoft. La prima, come abbiamo già detto, per un avvicinamento al mondo dei social network, tal da permettere a Bill Gates di tastare il terreno prima di muoversi verso una (eventuale) produzione propria. In secondo luogo, si parla del vantaggio che la stessa casa di Redmond vorrebbe avere con la propria stazione XBox, nei confronti delle storiche rivali quali Sony PlayStation 3 e la Nintendo Wii.

Il firmware nuovo della XBox già comprensivo di integrazione con i social network, dovrebbe essere disponibile già a partire dal 15 settembre 2009. Nella stessa data è previsto il lancio del lettore multimediale Zune HD, che ad oggi ha già una lunga schiera di fans pronti all’acquisto.
