Secondo quanto dichiarato da una recente ricerca effettuata dalla Gartner, i siti di social networking come Facebook e Twitter, stanno guadagnando sempre più terreno rispetto alle vecchie email. Già due colossi del campo informatico come la Microsoft e la IBM, hanno infatti lavorato sui propri software, legando in un certo qual modo le applicazioni basate sulla posta elettronica, i contatti e le agende ai siti di social networking.
