Facebook: secondo il Canada non rispetta la privacy

Secondo il Governo canadese, Facebook presenta una falla nella privacy, ovvero il fatto di non permettere ai propri utenti di cancellare completamente e definitivamente qualsiasi tipo di dato immesso, dai server del social network. Secondo una relazione scritta, Facebook fornisce informazioni poco chiare riguardo l’amministrazione del proprio account: mostra come disattivare il proprio profilo ma non come eliminarlo definitivamente. Eppure, se le nostre memorie non ci ingannano, la società di Zuckerberg aveva promesso, agli inizi di luglio, che tutto sarebbe diventato più chiaro e semplice. Promessa non mantenuta? Semplicemente Facebook, seppur grande che sia, vuole tenersi stretto ogni singolo utente che si iscrive.

La società ha risposto a queste accuse affermando che non è una falla. Il fatto che i dati rimangano ancora nei server è dovuto alla riattivazione degli account che, come tende a precisare, è attuata dalla metà degli utenti che si “cancellano”. Per risparmiare tempo e fatica si tende così a contenere tutto.

Ma ai canadesi questa risposta non è sufficiente. Addirittura il Governo a stanziato determinati provvedimenti ai quali Facebook si deve attenere, in conformità delle leggi nazionali. Alcune di queste sono state accettate mentre altre no. Il tempo a disposizione per uniformarsi completamente è di 30 giorni, altrimenti si procederà per via legale.

Per il Chief privacy officer di Facebook, Chris Kelly, non sarà necessaria. Ecco come ha commentato il fatto:

Abbiamo avuto una discussione molto produttiva e avvincente, sarei molto sorpreso se le cose dovessero prendere questa direzione. Noi riteniamo che non ci sia alcuna violazione delle leggi canadesi e riteniamo che il giudice possa facilmente comprendere che entrambe le parti stanno lavorando nella stessa direzione (rispetto delle leggi).

Ora bisognerà vedere come si svolgeranno i fatti. La questione è molto delicata. Il Canada ha più di 12 milioni di iscritti sul social network e perdere una così grande fetta di pubblico, per la società di Zuckerberg sarebbe una tremenda fitta al cuore.
