Facebook: pronto ad assumere

zuckerbergIn un periodo nel quale molte aziende sono state messe in ginocchio dalla crisi, tra cui social network di spicco come MySpace, Facebook diventa sempre più potente e ricco. Grazie ai ricavi di quest’anno e all’incremento dell’utenza sul sito, ora non bastano più gli ingegneri e programmatori già presenti, ne servono degli altri!

Quanti? La società ha in mente di aumentare il numero dei suoi dipendenti fino al 50%. MySpace deve invece continuare una politica di tagli per poter sopravvivere. La notizia proviene da un’intervista fatta dal giornale finanziario Bloomberg a Mark Zuckerberg stesso.

E’ iniziato tutto solo qualche anno fa. Come base operativa è stato scelto un vecchio capannone abbandonato di Palo Alto, in California. Un semplice capannone all’interno del quale ora sono presenti numerosissimi server che contengono i dati di 250 milioni di persone. Ora viene chiamato il “bunker” dal suo propietario, proprio per le sue mura spesse e quell’aria di luogo misterioso.

Ecco come ne parla Mark:

Quanti server c’erano inizialmente? Solamente uno, che Zuckerberg pagava 85 dollari mensilmente.

The first servers that I had I rented for $85 a month. We’d put ads on the site and then when I had money to get another server, I’d get another.

La politica d’investimento è sempre stata molto rigida, solamente all’aumentare dei ricavi dalle pubblicità presenti sul sito neonato, aumentava il numero di server acquisiti.

Ora Facebook, con i suoi ricavi, può permettersi di aumentare la manodopera nella sua società. Ad una tale azienda si possono fare solamente i complimenti per il lavoro svolto e per la costanza che ha dimostrato il team, anche in momenti particolati e difficili. Chissà quali saranno i nuovi orizzonti ai quali si affaccierà Facebook.
