Facebook: salata multa per la privacy?

Problemi di violazione della privacy per Facebook. Lo studente Mark Schrems ha infatti accusato il gruppo di conservare le informazioni private degli utenti cancellate dal social network, violando dunque le norme dell’Unione Europea.

La società di Mark Zuckerberg ha ovviamente respinto le accuse, ma il garante della privacy irlandese sta indagando sulla vicenda per capire se ci sono i presupposti per comminare al colosso una multa salata di 100.000 dollari per le violazioni di cui sarebbe accusato. 

Un problema complesso. Secondo lo studente, Facebook avrebbe infatti commesso ben 22 violazioni della normativa europea sulla privacy, che dal 2003 stabilisce come qualsiasi informazione cancellata dal sito debba esserlo in modo permanente, e non dunque conservata sui server come a quanto pare avrebbe fatto il re dei social network.

Nel dettaglio, Schrems rivela che Facebook avrebbe addirittura nascosto messaggi, amici bannati, nickname, indirizzi email, tag, foto e note cancellate, mentre l’azienda spiega di aver mantenuto soltanto indirizzi e-mail e ovviamente i nominativi. In sostanza, Facebook mantiene questi dati per motivi di sicurezza, onde evitare che un utente possa ad esempio continuare ad essere perseguitato da una persona indesiderata.

La questione tuttavia sembra a favore del giovane utente. Schrems aveva ricevuto infatti un CD contenente tutti i dati conservati nei server, scoprendo appunto la presenza di dati che aveva cancellato in precedenza, smentendo quindi nettamente la tesi portata avanti da Facebook.

La palla passa in mano dunque al garante per la privacy irlandese. La segnalazione del giovane utente è stata accolta, ora saranno svolte le indagini per stabilire se Facebook abbia effettivamente violato la normativa europea per la privacy, nodo fondamentale a cui l’Unione Europea tiene parecchio per salvaguardare la sicurezza dei dati degli utenti che navigano su internet. Come affermato, la multa pecuniaria potrebbe arrivare addirittura a 100.000 dollari, ma in questo momento, quello che preoccupa maggiormente Facebook è il danno d’immagine che può derivare dalla vicenda.
