Facebook Home privacy

Mark Zuckerberg ha presentato al mondo Facebook Home, il launcher per device Android mediante il quale accedere al social network in blu sempre e comunque dal proprio smartphone e, tra non molto, anche da tablet.

Si tratta sicuramente di una risorsa interesante ma come ogni cosa nuova che si appresta a far capolino nel mondo dell’IT e, in particolare, nel mondo social anche Facebook Home è stato sommerso da un pioggia di critiche inerenti la questione privacy.

Partendo dal presupposto che Facebook Home aggiunge il GPS a tutto ciò che il social network già sapeva sui suoi utenti diversi blogger a stelle e strisce ha iniziato interrogarsi in merito a quelle che potrebbero essere le possibili conseguenze e complicazioni.

A tal proposito Om Malik di GigaOm scrive:

L’intera premessa di Facebook Home è che si tratta del cruscotto del mondo sociale. Vuole essere il pulsante di avvio per le applicazioni che si trovano sul vostro dispositivo Android (..) Il telefono è in grado di inviare costantemente informazioni al server di Facebook, quindi se il telefono non si muove da una singola posizione tra le ore 22:00 e le ore 6 per dire una settimana o giù di lì, Facebook può rapidamente dedurre la posizione dell’abitazione; Facebook sarà in grado di individuarla su una mappa, e da lì iniziare a costruire un profilo migliore, iniziare a correlare tutti i rapporti, tutti i luoghi, i negozi, le cene ai ristoranti. I dati dell’accelerometro all’interno del telefono possono dire se si sta camminando, correndo o in auto.
Questo sta per accadere, ed è troppo tardi per un dibattito. Tuttavia, il problema è che Facebook sta per utilizzare tutti questi dati non per migliorare la nostra vita, ma per rendere più mirato il marketing dei messaggi pubblicitari.

Facebook Home, infatti, sarà sempre attivo ed avrà continuamente accesso a tutte le funzionalità hardware del device utilizzato e, naturalmente, a buona parte delle informazioni in esso archiviate.

Facebook Home saprà quindi quali applicazioni utilizziamo e potrà tracciare le abitudini d’uso degli utenti.

Naturalmente il team di Facebook ha precisato sin da subito che non controllerà attivamente la posizione dei suoi utenti e che manterrà le informazioni degli stessi solo e soltanto fin quando risulteranno utili per i servizi offerti.

Facebook Home è però destinato in maniera inevitabile a modificare non solo le modalità di utilizzo dello smartphone ma anche il concetto stesso di social network e di privacy.

Per scoprire come, però, sarà necessario attendere almeno l’arrivo di Facebook Home su Google Play.

    | IoChatto is kinda boring. You could look at Yahoo’s home page
    and watch how they write post titles to get viewers interested.
    You might try adding a video or a related pic
    or two to grab readers interested about what you’ve got to say.
