Cos’è Facebook Beacon? In molti purtroppo non lo sanno. Si tratta di un sistema pubblicitario ideato da Facebook e basato sulla condivisione delle informazioni relative agli utenti che escono fuori nel sito e vengono indirizzate agli amici ed agli amici degli amici ed ancora agli amici degli amici degli amici, cioè a tutti.

Questo problema basato principalmente sulla privacy degli utenti, non sta bene a molti dei navigatori quotidiani dei social network che vedono mettere in pubblico i propri gusti e le proprie preferenze solo per advertising da cui non ci ricavano un bel nulla.
Il Tribunale Federale della California, ha confermato in seguito a ciò, una richiesta fatta da alcuni utenti di avere un risarcimento a riguardo. Infatti, Facebook dovrà pagare 9,5 milioni di dollari per le violazioni della privacy di un determinato numero di utenti, fatte a seguito dell’avvio del sistema Beacon.

Questa cifra risarcirà le persone che hanno denunciato, ed inoltre darà vita ad una fondazione che realizzerà progetti a tutela della privacy. Ma torniamo al nostro processo. I giudici e la giuria, hanno decretato insostenibile, l’idea di diffondere le preferenze personali degli utenti, nonostante Facebook sia un sistema fondamentalmente basato su questo principio di funzionamento. A toccare la polemica a riguardo, non sono solo gli Stati Uniti d’America. Il discorso è ormai “chiacchierato” in tutto il mondo, e persino in Italia, si parla sempre più spesso di tutela degli utenti e soprattutto di privacy. La differenza sostanziale è proprio nel fatto che la legislazione italiana è diversa da quella americana, anche perchè l’Autorità Garante è da molto che propone una rettifica al sistema riguardo i dati personali ma siamo ancora in alto mare.

Ad oggi, quindi quelli di Facebook sono alle prese con un nuovo problema: trovare un nuovo sistema di advertising interno che eviti di includere gli utenti.
