I lettori più attenti ricorderanno di Diaspora, un nuovo social network che si candida ad essere il prossimo Facebook killer. I creatori del progetto, quattro ragazzi di New York, studenti universitari, hanno annunciato ufficialmente la data di lancio del sito: 15 settembre 2010.

Tra pochi giorni potremo finalmente toccare con mano le qualità di Diaspora. Nei mesi scorsi il sito ha fatto parlare molto di sè. Diaspora è un progetto libero, open source, privo di pubblicità, dove ogni contenuto pubblicato è controllato rigorosamente e scrupolosamente da un team di esperti. Niente problemi di privacy, niente profili falsi pensati per estorcere dati personali, nessun tipo di pubblicità. Diasporà non avrà annunci pubblicitari di alcun genere, per questo, assicurano i creatori del progetto, i nostri dati sono assolutamente al sicuro.

Diaspora nasce la scorsa estate, quasi per gioco, come compito universitario di quattro studenti americani: Daniel, Maxwell, Raphael e Ilya. I ragazzi hanno pensato di creare un social network stile Facebook, con un occhio di riguardo per la privacy. Il progetto ha subito suscitato l’interesse dei media, ed i giovani studenti hanno iniziato a raccogliere fondi per far crescere il loro sito. Le offerte ricevute sono state tantissime, in pochi mesi hanno ricevuto donazioni per un totale di 100.000 dollari. Tra i sostenitori, sorpresa delle sorprese, troviamo anche Mark Zuckerberg, proprio il fondatore di Facebook.

Una caratteristica interessante di Diaspora è la sua natura aperta, open source. I programmatori esperti possono mettere mano al codice sorgente, aggiungere nuove funzioni e migliorare il social network. Una opportunità davvero niente male…

Per il resto però Diaspora si presenta in modo molto simile a Facebook. Possiamo quindi creare un profilo personale, condividere e pubblicare link, foto, video, chattare con gli amici e conoscere nuove persone con le nostre stesse passioni.
