I Social Network e la depressione sono legati

Credete che avere tanti amici su Facebook o sugli altri social network sia una cosa positiva? Vi vantate di tutte le relazioni sociali che riuscite ad intrattenere tramite la Rete? Avrete da ricredervi dopo la lettura di questo post. Infatti, due docenti di Sociologia della Utah Valley University hanno condotto una ricerca per indagare quale sia il legame fra l’utilizzo dei social network e il dilagare della depressione fra i giovani di oggi. I ricercatori Hui-Tzu Grace Chou e Nicholas Edge hanno pubblicato la ricerca sulla rivista scientifica Cyberpsyichology, Behavior and Social Networking.

 

Sono stati sottoposti allo studio ben 425 studenti a cui sono state poste diverse domande sulla loro vita e sul modo di utilizzo dei social network e di Facebook. Da queste interviste è emerso che in realtà i giovani non sono per niente soddisfatti della propria vita. Anzi, l’avere delle amicizie virtuali inciderebbe in modo negativo sulla percezione di tutto ciò che riguarda la propria esistenza. In pratica, sul social network i giovani tenderebbero  a mettere sempre un’immagine sorridente e felice di se stessi, anche quando questo non corrisponde alla realtà.

 

 

Questo comportamento, a lungo andare, non fa altro che ledere all’autostima dei giovani che penserebbero che gli altri stiano meglio di loro e quindi finirebbero per ricadere in uno stato depressivo, delusi da se stessi e dai propri insuccessi. Finzione o realtà: questo è l’eterno problema dei social network. Quanto ciò che viene pubblicato corrisponde alla realtà o all’immagine che gli altri vogliono costruire di se stessi? La ricerca è chiara su questo punto. Il 95% degli studenti intervistati, iscritti da almeno due anni a Facebook, navigano per circa 4,8 ore al giorno sul social, ma proprio gli utenti più attivi risultano essere più depressi, perché hanno una visione distorta degli altri. La dottoressa Chou ha, infatti, dichiarato:

“Vedendo le immagini felici di altre persone su Facebook dà alla gente l’impressione che gli altri siano sempre felici e abbiano una bella vita”

 

Insomma, forse è meglio avere amicizie in carne ed ossa. I social network sono utilissimi, ma non possono sostituire la realtà.

    because of the costs. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using
    WordPress on numerous websites for about a year and am concerned about switching to another platform.
