Oggi parliamo di Twitter, il microblog che il 13 Marzo ha festeggiato il suo compleanno. Come già raccontatovi da IoChatto il sito sta raccogliendo tantissimi consensi e sempre più software sono anche correlati allo stesso sito, al punto da rendere più completa l’offerta del web per gli utenti legata alla connettività dello stesso. Jack Dorsey, cofondatore del progetto ha raccontato in una intervista al sito americano Tech Crunch qualche chicca sulla nascita del sito e di alcune cose fatte insieme al fondatore Biz Stone, ma vediamo un po’ qualche dettaglio.

Come già detto il sito web festeggia il lancio il 13 Maggio del 2006, ma non tutti invece sanno che il primo Tweet è stato lanciato solo dopo 8 giorni, cioè il 21 Marzo. Proprio per questo motivo, c’è “in casa” una sorta di dubbio sul quando festeggiare il compleanno del sito.

L’unica cosa sicura sono i 5 anni di vita. Anche sul nome ci sono delle curiosità perché l’idea iniziale del lancio era di chiamarlo TWTTR, senza le covali, ma poi visto che sarebbe stato troppo difficile da pronunciare per chi non conoscesse il nome intero Twitter si è deciso di scriverlo così.
I due fondatori, lavoravano in Odeo, società di podcasting acquisita poi da Sony nel 2007 ed i primi inviti al social network sono stati fatti proprio ai colleghi della società. Inoltre, durante l’intervista Dorsey dice che abbia mostrato un pezzo da museo al giornalista, cioè uno schizzo del sito web su un semplice foglio di carta.

Altra curiosità interessante è che il sito vinse dopo un anno (nel Marzo del 2007), il South by Southwest Web Award nella categoria dei blog e da questa vittoria è stato tutto un percorso in salita e di popolarità. Oggi il sito web conta più di 200 milioni di utenti iscritti con oltre 110 milioni di tweet inviati al giorno.
