E’ morto all’età di 26 anni Aaron Swartz, co-fondatore di Reddit, popolare sito di social sharing. Il giovane si sarebbe ucciso la notte dell’11 gennaio, ma il corpo è stato ritrovato solo nelle ultime ore a New York.

Programmatore e attivista internet, Swartz era anche un brillante hacker, e per questo era stato accusato di crimini informatici per aver scaricato illegalmente e diffuso in rete ben 4 milioni di documenti dal JSTOR, l’archivio privato del MIT, il Massachusets Institute of Technology.

Aaron Swartz rischiava una condanna fino a 30 anni di reclusione, ma si è sempre dichiarato innocente, avendo agito non per fini personali, ma per sostenere la libera condivisione delle informazioni su internet. Tra una settimana, il giovane avrebbe dovuto recarsi in tribunale per perorare la sua causa, ma la depressione di cui soffriva da anni alla fine ha avuto la meglio.

Swartz si è impiccato nel suo appartemento di Brooklyn, e la sua famiglia ha lanciato pesanti accuse verso il dipartimento di giustizia e lo stesso MIT per aver quella che viene definita, senza mezzi termini, come “una persecuzione”.
