Facebook e la bufala dei messaggi privati in bacheca

L’allarme è scattato in Francia quando alcuni messaggi privati degli utenti Facebook sono apparsi improvvisamente in bacheca sulla Timeline pubblica, sotto gli occhi di tutti. Si tratta dell’ennesimo bug del social network più famoso del mondo? La nostra privacy è ancora una volta a rischio?

Niente di tutto questo. Quella dei messaggi privati in bacheca è solo una bufala, anzi un malinteso frutto della scarsa conoscenza di alcune opzioni Facebook da parte degli utenti.

I messaggi “incriminati” apparterrebbero tutti ad un arco di tempo che va dal 2007 al 2009, e in quel periodo in cui non esisteva la possibilità di lasciare like, commenti, ecc. Perciò le conversazioni si svolgevano con un meccanismo di “botta e risposta” tra utenti, e sono sempre state pubbliche. Dunque, con l’arrivo della Timeline, questi messaggi sono stati automaticamente incorporati nella cronologia del diario.

Un portavoce di Facebook ha dichiarato alla BBC che quei messaggi sono stato scrupolosamente controllati, ma si sono rivelati dei vecchi post pubblici, poi dimenticati dagli stessi utenti. Ma il network garantisce che non c’è stata nessuna violazione della privacy, e che le due aree di dati – messaggi pubblici e messaggi privati – non possono essere in alcun modo confusi dal sistema perché la loro gestione è mantenuta separata.

Quella dei messaggi privati sulla bacheca di Facebook è una bufala che abbiamo già sentito. L’ultima volta risale al 2011, ma anche allora la voce si rivelò priva di fondamento.
