Microsoft compra SkypeSecondo quanto riportato dal Wall Street Journal, Microsoft ha comprato Skype per 8.5 miliardi di dollari. Come si suol dire, tra i due litiganti il terzo gode, il client VoIP era conteso da Facebook e Google, la casa di Redmond però sembra aver già concluso l’accordo e l’annuncio ufficiale dovrebbe essere diramato nelle prossime.

Microsoft dovrebbe tenere una conferenza stampa in giornata per spiegare i motivi dell’acquisizione di Skype, l’azienda ha sborsato 8.5 miliardi di dollari, praticamente il doppio rispetto a quanto offerto da Facebook. Si tratta di una delle cifre più alte mai uscite dalle casse di Redmond per una acquisizione.

La domanda sorge spontanea, quale sarà il futuro di Skype? Microsoft potrebbe inizialmente lasciare le cose così come stanno, il client resterà perfettamente operativo, l’acquisizione permetterà però a Ballmer e soci di integrare Skype in Office (pensate all’utilità della cosa in Outlook, per esempio), inoltre non dimentichiamoci che Microsoft ha stretto recentemente una alleanza con Nokia, il client VoIP potrebbe risultare molto utile anche in questo senso, tutti i futuri smartphone Nokia con Windows Phone 7 avranno Skype preinstallato. Ovviamente è solamente una ipotesi, che però non è poi così lontana dalla realtà.

Facebook, nonostante abbia perso l’appalto per comprare Skype, potrebbe comunque guadagnare molto da questo affare. Perchè? Microsoft è uno dei principali investitori del social network di Mark Zuckerberg, tra le due parti ci sono ottimi rapporti e in futuro Facebook potrebbe comunque integrare la tecnologia del client VoIP più diffuso del mondo. Cosa che sarebbe stata praticamente impossibile in caso di acquisto da parte di Google, visto i pessimi rapporti che intercorrono tra le due parti, come confermato anche da Marissa Mayer al Social-Loco di San Francisco.

Al momento, lo ripetiamo, l’accordo non è ancora ufficiale, anche se fonti autorevoli lo danno praticamente per certo, mancherebbe solamente l’annuncio da parte di Microsoft.
